SEE A PENNY PRETTIES!!
At Street Candy we love to support local creatives and show you their fabulous work. I have been promising you all a feature on one of my favorite local accessories designers, See A Penny, so here we go. See A Penny offers delicious hand made jewellery and accessories which are sure to brighten up the drabbest of ensembles. Run single-handedly by the delightful Kristy Biggs, See A Penny was founded in 2110 and has been building from strength to strength ever since. Guided by her own tastes, and love for all things, 40s, 50s, bright, bold and quirky, Kristy creates statement pieces which ensure the wearer stands out from the crowd.
Kristy started See A Penny after leaving work to have her gorgeous baby girl in 2010. As she says, ” I didn’t have a name yet and just started creating, It wasn’t until after Penny was born that the name ‘See a Penny’ came about and so too the facebook page in November of 2010.” Based in Buderim Queensland See A Penny products can be purchased via the facebook page and shortly through the See A Penny Website. Kristy’s designs are often limited editions or one offs which means you are sure to find yourself something unique amongst her range. Her bold designs are eye-catching without being so over the top they wear you. They strike just the right balance between wear-ability and creativity.
When asked if she had any advice for other crafters looking to start their own business Kristy said “I would have to say to all those crafty people out there to just give it a go. you meet some lovely people and you may just end up on a good thing. Other advice would have to be to research all your goods, even do ‘test runs’ and give away items to have people try them out and give you feedback.” Great advice from a talented lady.
Kristy’s dedication to researching and trialing her products is evident in the final results. Each piece is lovingly hand crafted and Kristy’s commitment to detail and quality is evident. Many See A Penny pieces have a psycho-billy flavor with classic horror characters, such as Frankenstein’s monster, featuring on pendants and clips. I personally adore the pieces which feature a skeletal greaser complete with quiff and day of the dead make-up. Go check out See A Penny yourself, you wont be disappointed xx
